FloorCast Field for Android

The survey companion for FloorCast3D. Walk the building with a laser or tape, type each reading on the phone, record the compass bearing and every column, door and obstruction, then share the survey file to your PC and import it into FloorCast3D, ready to review. Measurements save on the phone first, so nothing depends on a connection while you are on site.

Android will ask before it installs

This is a direct download, not a Play Store listing, so Android treats it as an app from an unknown source. That is the phone doing its job; here is what to expect.

  1. Open the download on the phone. Chrome or the Files app shows it as FloorCast-Field-0.1.2.apk.
  2. Android asks to allow installs from that app (Chrome or Files). Allow it for this one install; you can switch it back off afterwards under Settings.
  3. Tap Install. If Play Protect asks to scan the app, let it; the scan passes and installation continues.

Get the survey into FloorCast3D

Finish the survey, share the file, import it. Nothing has to be running or reachable on the PC while you are on site, and nothing leaves the building unless you send it.

  1. On the phone, open the survey’s Review & export screen and tap Share survey file (.json). Send it to yourself any way you like: email, Drive, or a cable.
  2. On the PC, in FloorCast3D, click Field survey next to Load project and choose the file. FloorCast3D shows what will import before it changes anything, and Undo reverses the import.

Optional: transfer over Wi-Fi

When the phone and the PC are on the same Wi-Fi, finished surveys can arrive on their own. It is a shortcut, not the only way: guest networks and locked-down PCs block it, and the file always works.

  1. On the PC, in FloorCast3D, open File › Field inbox and turn on Enable phone transfer. It shows the PC’s local address and a six-digit code that lasts five minutes. Windows asks once whether to allow FloorCast3D through the firewall: allow it on private networks, or the phone cannot reach the PC.
  2. On the phone, open Settings › Connect to desktop and enter that address and code. The phone keeps a device token after that, so pairing is a one-time step per PC.
  3. Queued surveys send themselves whenever the paired PC is reachable and land in the Field inbox for you to review and import; nothing overwrites a design you have open.

Check what you downloaded

The published build has this SHA-256 digest. If your IT department wants to verify the file before it goes on a company phone, download it on a PC and compare:

On Windows: certutil -hashfile FloorCast-Field-0.1.2.apk SHA256

iPhone

There is no iPhone build yet. The app is written to run on both, and the App Store listing is the next step; until then a survey on an iPhone means the tape, a notebook and the desktop’s own building setup.

What it needs from the phone

  • Location permission, used only to read the compass. The app records a bearing, not where you are, and sends no location anywhere.
  • Photos stay on the phone. A survey carries references to them, not the image files.
  • A laser distance meter or a tape. The app takes typed readings; it does not connect to the meter.
